Sayonara 2011! Welcome 2012!

In the Philadelphia Inquirer this week they had an article about the Food Trends to come in 2012. (http://www.philly.com/philly/restaurants/20111229_food_trends.html ) Some of them I agree with and I am excited to try this year. In 2012, one of my goals is to try these food trends and see if they actually make it through the year. I want to see where they pop up this year and to see if they pop up at unusual places that aren't expected to have them.

I’m all about the grilled cheese.  That’s my comfort food and that’s all about the cheesiness in it. That’s the trend I’m really looking forward to trying this year. I started  following Say Cheese! On Facebook this year.  But this year it’s all about tracking them down and seeing if there cheesiness is good enough for me.(http://www.facebook.com/saycheesephiladelphia)

I totally love the idea of customized French Fries. There is no places around Philadephia that does customized French fries. Hopefully one will pop up this year. There is a place in Jacksonville, FL that I have heard about that’s called French Fry Heaven (www.frenchfryheaven.com) There is the customization of the Angels which are Belgian style French fries or the Saints which are the Sweet Potato Fries. With all of these fries you can add all the different topping to it. Some of the hits and craziness of them include the marshmallow and pumpkin topping on sweet potato fries to a blue cheese dusting on top of regular French fries.  When I go to Jacksonville in June this is one place I’m definitely going to and want to experience the Saints verses the Angels.

In the Philadelphia Inquirer they mention the new trend of Korean food hitting main stream. This can be seen in a place in Philadelphia from such a simple place as Federal Donuts from their fried chicken. Another place is Korilla BBQ  which was featured on The Next Food Truck Race on Food Network located New York City. This is one place I’m trying to go to in New York City this year.  They offer Taco’s, Burrito’s, and Chosun Bowls to get your Korean BBQ on.  (http://korillabbq.com)

There always saying cupcakes are going out of being a trend but the general public is addicted to them. When you come home we have the shows of DC Cupcakes on TLC,  Cupcake Wars on Food Network , and the cupcake trucks and cupcake bakeries keep on popping up.  This is a trend which will stay alive for the next 10 years. The cupcake is the sweet little personal bite of any cake flavor compared to that big slice of cake. I think people will choose the cupcake to the slice of cake any day. The next dessert trend is Canele which has been predicted from the Philadelphia Inquirer, Bon Appetit, and the James Beard Foundation.  Caneles have been around for hundreds of years so how are they a trend??? Wouldn’t they be considered a classic or a legend?  But to get the best Caneles are Market Day Canele in Philadelphia (www.marketdaycanale.com )
